The SEDO auction site, showcase of top dollar auctions and browsing destination of domainer choice, launched today the release of its free Price Suggestion Tool. menu dropdown choices inside the SEDO account reference account domains for this function, there is no “plugin” for visitors.
The SEDO ad text reads to alleviate ambiguity in domain value estimation. Domainers use these estimates to engotiate sales and prices for domain names not presently incorporated into bricks and mortar websites. Traffic and keyword SEO factors doubtless factor into the mix.
Leveling this playing field could take some time, as estibot and Alexa and many other brand platforms have crafted online price suggestion tools treated by many in the domain name world as gospel.

Domain Industry Ragless

Industry insiders continue to debate the fate of recent paper journals and in-the-real manifestions of the online domaining world. “There is no industry rag”, complains one global domainer who is a familiar face at international conferences.
Many in the domain name community connote this dearth of news media in print with the online nature of the domain world. “Everything is RSS feed, interactive, instant news and forum based,” A top-level domainer has said. But does that mean there is no pulp media in the future for domain name enthusiasts?
“Domaining is both an industry and a hobby”, one leading domain analyst commented recently. “There should be at least one periodical on newstands to keep speculators, domain professionals, resellers, and onlookers informed.”

Leading this week’s chart are Payment.com at $250,000 and Payments.com at $150,000, for a combined $400,000. The whois records for the domains still show Sedo’s transfer service, so the buyer isn’t known. Both domain names have had protected whois records for the past couple years.
Although not on Sedo’s official list for the week, it appears the company has also brokered the sale of Live Current Media’s (OTCbb: LIVC.ob) Brazil.com domain name. The whois record has changed, more news to come.
Blockbuster name vendor Sedo is on a streak. Domaining looks good from the SEDO colored glasses this month for sure. Sedo’s auction dept. has a handful of strong 5 figure dot-com sales to back up its chart headliners. iPal.com sold for $59,000, tapping into the Itunes/Iphone/Ipod standalone apps markets.
. LMK.com sold for $58,500, and DomainAppraisal.com for $52,000.
Microsoft Pastes Office.com Into Folder

Nothing gets by those folks at Microsoft. Right about seven years after its trademarked Office product has become industry standard (and the Linux opposition to beat) Microsoft nabbed its flagship name.
Domain industry reaction has ranged from an openmouthed stammer to a wisecracking fusillade of mockery. For a company brand product name with near-rabid tendencies toward copyright protection and concern for brand jumping, that Office.com has evaded the blue checkbook of death this long should be respected.
OMG, OMG.com got Yahoo’d

So how come nobody has trademarked OMG yet? Yahoo will probably try. Active in the domain sector (propping up a cheap domain selling but expensive to renew Yahoo Small Business franchise) the search engine/email utility/all purpose map platform and more company has been buying and selling space the past few months.
But can they develop worth a darn? Yahoo is the buyer of OMG.com, which sold last week for $80,000, according to Domain Name Wire.
A well-known gossip site moniker, OMG.com shows those picture of starlets on red carpets in Hollywood and talks breathlessly about people you never knew existed. And now it belongs to …Yahoo.
Of course, Yahoo has a history with domain names too big for the ‘Hoo britches. Yahoo sold off contests.com in June for $380,000 after sitting on it for many years. Could Yahoo be the big domains player sleeper after all?
