Google’s Fast Fiber Attracts City Targets

Google can be in the news other than fending off China, and the high speed internet backbone it has in the works is attracting feverish competition for the guinea pig stage. Unlike early internet providers, Google has waited until the ripe age of real estate to buy the broadband pipeline it needs. The demand curve for home broadband in this range is currently solid. The 1-gigabyte per second Fiber for Communities experiment has caused city mayors to jump in frozen lakes and Rancho Cucamonga, California to rename itself Rancho Googlemonga for March. The decision as to which city wins the fiber will be announced by years end, and home businesses are expected to spring up wherever the Google broadband is announced.
