Some reasons for business to own generic .com domain names

I would like to compile the reasons for businesses to buy generic .com domain names for their businesses.
1) .com is the most recognised extension and people do type in keywords + .com. e.g. people looking to “make money online” might type in makemoneyonline.com. If people like to learn”how to earn money online“, they might type in HowtoEarnMoneyOnline.com (my domain).
2) To redirect the targeted visitors to their business websites. Visitors, arriving to the domains are highly targeted and they are very valuable in marketing sense.
3) To get the targeted visitors for life as long as they don’t sell the domains and keep renewing them. In the long run, it would be much more economical than adwords advertising etc…
4) To build another website to help their business grow.
e.g. Microsoft got MSN.com, Bing.com.
Google got Youtube.com, Feedburner.com, Picasa.com, Blogger.com
5) To prevent rival businesses from owning those keyword domains. This is indirectly related to “survival of the strongest”.
Finally I have developed one of my domains myself

I am a part-time domainer and usually don’t have enough time to develop domains into websites because my full time job takes around 48 hours a week or more. Some weeks, I work over 72 hours per week at my full time job especiatlly when I have to do oncalls.
Today, I have some spare time and have develop one of my domains into a website. The domain is Antigua.info and the full developed website is
The site is for sale currently and I am thinking of high x,xxx – xx,xxx range because similar GEO domains (no websites) sold in xx,xxx range.
I appreciate your feedback for the website improvement.
I think some domains ending with “site” or “website” have significant values.

I like some domains ending with “site” or “website” at the end. I recently sold a “website.com” domain which I bought low xxx for mid x,xxx range. I respect the privacy of the domain buyer and therefore I would not mention the domain name.
Let’s look at a working website just as an example and we would choose the site JobSite.co.uk .
JobSite.co.uk is an employment website where people could find jobs or vacancies from different employers and recruitment agencies. They sponsor one of the UK premier league teams and I imagine it would cost them substantial amount of money, may be a few million pounds per year to sponsor the team.
Its Alexa Rank is over 7,000 and in the UK, it is ranked 307. Compete.com Ranking is over 50,000.
I have a few “site” or “website” domains.
e.g.
CasinoSite.com
CasinoWebsite.com
ArticleWebsite.com
DirectoryWebsite.com and more. I really like first two domains and they are pretty good domains for development. I have got a few offers but would not sell them unless someone comes up with a pretty good offer. I have seen a few domains, with “site” or “website” at the end, sold in the range of xx,xxx. I would not be surprised to see such domain sales at much higher prices in near future.

I am one of the biddders for the domain Position.org which is one of the top pre-release domains at Namejet today. Currently bid is not that high and only at $76 but there are 84 bidders so far and counting. The domain Position.org has been registered since 2000 and it is registered at Fabulous.com.
It is a pretty one word dictionary .org domain and when I look at the google search tool, there are around over 9 million phrase searches per month and around 135,000 EXACT searches per month for the keyword.
Do you have 12 million and one dollars? This domain seller would like you to break a world record.

I come across with this bizarre domain and the domain owner is asking $12,000,001 to buy his domain for you to break a world record. It is just bizarre as the domain is not even worth reg fees for me. The domain name is www.themostexpensivedomainnameintheworld.com and on this website, the owner mentions about the domain sale of sex.com for 12 million dollars in 2006 and he or she has been asking for 12 million and one dollars for the domain to break the domain world record.
He mentioned that the buyer would be listed in the Guinness Book of Records and I don’t know how he or she could mention something like this as it would be out of his or her control.
It gave me a good laugh and just wanted to share this with you.
