Women Com in GE/ NBC Legal Dispute

Sometimes big dollar domain sales go wrong. Witness the legal issues between NBC Universal, the seller of both Women.com and Women.net from NBC and iVillage to Ben Padnos. The ex parte motions read like civil matters gone amok, except that a huge amount of clicks are at stake. Benjamin Padnos of Done Ventures bought the names on Sedo. This happened May 24th of 2010.
But minus amenable settlement of the deal he had tried filing a restraining order on NBC Universal, to cease them from using the names online. NBC, one of the biggest names and companies in entertainment with an ambitious online campaign for programming and marketing, evidently wants to keep them. How did things go so wrong? NBC claims Jeff Zucker countermanded the sale after Sedo informed the principal contacts at NBC the names were sold.
With control of the actual name(s) staying with NBC, every day that goes by is a win for the Peacock, and a loss for the Sedo buyer. Question: Are sellers and Jeff Zucker not bound by Sedo Terms of Service? The poor domain buyer thought he could actually fork over a million bucks and actually get two domain names. Per the filed legal text, NBC currently points the names to iVillage for traffic.
This legal hootenanny comes after receipt of an email every domainer dreams of getting: ”Alan and Ben, Congratulations! The offer for Women.com has been accepted!” Sedo’s reply email indicates that NBC/GE would be creating a Bill of Sale for the $ 1 million sale. ” The legal case will determine much for the future pathway of online legal binding sales.Furthermore, do GE/NBC stockholders know they just lost a cool million?
Female audiences for online female products and women’s sites for everything from makeup to venture capital funding is a titanic market. Hence GE and NBC Universal’s interest in keeping the name. Parent company GE is based in New York, although key NBC Universal offices are in Burbank and Los Angeles, California. Domainers should bookmark their legal case watching to make sure their next big dream bid goes through.

Recently there was a respectable .info domain sale in the range of x,xxx. The domain, Gentleman.info was sold for 2,000 EURO (around $2511.74 according to today’s exchange rate). It was a generic one word .info domain name and it was a good price for the seller.
When I looked at the Google tool, there were 450,000 EXACT searches per month for the keyword “Gentleman“. CPC (cost per click) was around $0.43 per click. The domain was sold at the Sedo domain marketplace.

When I saw the domain sale of Receiptcom-lease.com for $4,500, I could not understand why this price? I am still puzzled with the domain sale of Receiptcom-lease.com for mid x,xxx range. Was the domain live or just a mistake by the Sedo Staff? Yes, the domain sale was reported at Sedo domain marketplace.
When I check the domain, Receiptcom-lease.com, it is available to register. I wonder whether someone leases the domain, Receipt.com for $4,500.
DanceCentral.com sold nearly $20,000

Today, I noticed that the domian, dancecentral.com was sold for nearly $20,000 (Exactly at $19,500). I really think the domain sale is an end user domain sale because no domainer in the right mind would have bought that domain for such amount. The domain, dancecentral.com has been registered since 2000. I was thinking that there would not be much search volume per month for “dance central” keyword phrase.
When I looked at the Google tool, there was not enough search volume last month but average EXACT search volume was 2,400 per month. Not a lot to pay xx,xxx range for a domainer.
It was a good payday for the domain seller.
Another hot .org domain sale. Hairtransplant.org sold for $20,000

Now when I checked the Google keyword tool, I found out that the keyword “Hair Transplant” searched around 60,000 times per month (EXACT search) with CPC (cost per click) around $6.25. There are over 1 million EXACT phrase search results in Google.
It was a really strong .org domain sale. Many congratulations.
Dating.com sold for $1.75 million dollars. Too low or too high?

Yesterday, there was a big domain sale and the premium domain, Dating.com sold for $1.75 million dollars. There are many discussions regarding this domain sale and some said too low, some said too high price. For me, I think it would depend upon what the domain seller would do with the money. I believe he got a good domain sale and he could buy some decent domains at reasonabe prices. Yes, he may get 3 million or more if he waits a bit longer but he might have missed opportunities to capture more or less similar quality domains at very reasonable prices.
For example,
He may get 3 million dollars for dating.com in 5 years’ time by waiting a bit more.
But if he reinvests the money (1.75 million) in the domains in xxx,xxx range and if he manages to get $300,000 domains at $100,000 prices, his new porfolio would be equivalent to 1.75 x 3 =5.25 million dollars.
Therefore, I believe he gets a fair sale price if he decides to reinvest the money to acquire quality domains in this time of difficult economy.
Software.de sells big at $315K

Country codes lead sales lists, but interesting series of “license plate” sales is most curious.
Auction blocker SEDO has sold the domain name Software.de for 235,025 EUR, or about $315,000 USD. Software.de is still undergoing transfer and the new owner has yet to be disclosed. Country code names are not immune, it seems, from big ticket domain name acquisitions.
SEDO also completed the sale of a number of dot-tv domain names from its recent .tv themed auction. Business.tv leads the way at $100,999. Christmas.tv went for about $35K. Home.Tv went for $31K, Learn.Tv went for $41K, and Job.tv went for over $25K. Look for video portals from one or all these names in the coming year.
On the .com side, thefirst.com sold for $20,000. Previously owned by a bank, the turnover may signal real estate shifts in European domain markets.
License plate name configurations sprouted wings on the auction block this week. Gr8.com sold for $16,000, iwant2.com sold for 15,000 GBP, and reson8.com sold for $10,000 USD.

The domain, Species.com was sold for mid xx,xxx (exactly at $37,500) and the keyword “species” has got its own value. The domain was sold at the Sedo domain marketplace recently. What’s so special with the keyword “species”? I started looking at some stats.
It was interesting to see over 113 millions search results for the keyword “species” in Google. If you look at the Google keyword tool, you would see that there are around 165,000 EXACT searches per month for the keyword “species” on average. May be the buyer has a development idea for “species”.
